Having escaped from prison, Lotor joins forces with the sorceress Haggar, who has hidden Castle Doom somewhere in "The Dream Dimension." The two villains are soon gleefully scheming and screaming together. The members of the Voltron Force are eager to prevent Lotor from resuming his career of destruction and terror. They chafe at the restrictions placed on them by Amalgamus, the prissy robot who heads the Galaxy Garrison. Amalgamus refuses to let them use the weapons they need to halt Lotor before he becomes a threat to civilization. The five heroes rely on a mystic bond with their ships ("Lion and pilot are one") and do what they feel is needed to hold Lotor in check. The sequence of the lions joining to form Voltron works better in computer animation than it did in the drawn series. The motion-capture animation remains weightless, and the scenes of huge mechanical lions leaping through space--where there's no gravity--look incongruous. Not rated: suitable for ages 7 and up for violence, mostly robots and space ships attacking each other. --Charles Solomon
